      Hello there,

I have deliberately set some white text to overprint fill, so that it does not appear in a PDF set to Overprint Preview.

My problem is that if I pull this text out as a snippet or put it in a Library, ID 'helpfully' strips out this overprint attribute when it goes into a new document. I think if I pull directly from document to document it preserves it, but I am keen to use one of the other methods. Is there a way anyone can think of for suppressing InDesign's natural helpfulness on this issue?

      Thanks

      S

I don't think its possible to set “Paper” or white text to overprint.Or am I missing something?

Use non-printing in attributes to stop it showing up.

No, I definitely need the overprint white. I am making a slug that will appear outside the trim of the PDFs I proof to clients. The white text will warn the client to ensure that Overprint Preview is turned on in their Adobe Reader so they can see how it will print. If the text is not there, it means they have Overprint Preview on already and they dont need to bother.

You can force white to overprint by adding some colour, ticking Overprint Fill then taking the colour back out again, although in this case I have made the text as outlines in Illustrator and imported it into ID so it doesnt bring in an extra swatch.

All works well, until InDesign kills off the overprint white when importing as a snippet or a Library item, which is what I'm trying to fix.

How about instead of using a snippet, you set the white text in Illustrator and make it white overprinting, it will allow this without a work round, then import the .ai file into your Indesign file.

Ah well I can't make the whole slug in AI as I am using some conditional text options to select for different types of slug. So at the moment I have had to just make an INDD file which people will open and pull the slug template out of. It works OK, but still annoys me as I'd really like to put it in a Library. Heigh ho, we can't have it all.

      Thanks
