      Hello,

what has often bugged me while working on text and setting tab stops to text elements for forms so they vertically fit into my layout grid is that with zoom levels of more than 150% the tab positioning bar (command + shift + T) does not start at the edge of the layout anymore.

Here a screenshot of the misplaced toolbar at 200%:

And here it’s all as it should be:

Clicking the little magnet-icon at the right edge of the toolbar does not help either (what exactly does that bugger really do, I saw no change in behaviour…)

      Thanks for any hints!

I’ve had problem with earlier versions as well.

I think it works correctly if the page you are working on is centered in front of you, or something. That’s probably the wrong way to explain it, but I can’t think of the right term. If you aren’t lined up perfectly, it will do that.

Since that is not always possible, I just got used to grabbing it and placing where I needed it to align.

Hopefully someone will have an answer for you.

What’s more annoying to me is trying to drag a guide to within a half point and InDesign insists on .4 or .8 (instead of .5). It doesn’t do it all the time. For instance, I can get 6p6.5 or 6p0.5 but another number (for example 7) it will be 7p6.4 or 7p0.4)

Thanks for your encouragement, Dwayne, I hope someone will jump in! Regarding your own gripe with those guides: several remedies exist to my knowledge. If you don’t need the «smart guide» feature try unchecking that (in menu «view –> grid&guides –>smart guides or command + U). Sorry if the naming is not quite correct, I use a german language version of ID CS6 for Mac.

What I like much better is to place a guide by numerals: put one on the spreadsheet and while it’s still active (or click it if it’s not) go to very left of the menu bar and enter the desired values there. you can place/move/multiply guides like any other object, e.g. by using menu «object –> transform». Or you might just hold down the control key (Mac) simultaneously while you place the guide, this temporarily disables the smart-guide feature. Click the object first, then click control or else the dropdown menu will pop up.

        Good luck!
