Placing Text from Word – Font Issues

I create and edit files in Microsoft Word. In the past, I’ve primarily copied and pasted from Word into InDesign, but that is turning out to be a bad system, primarily because when I find errors after the files goes into ID, I have to make the corrections twice in order to keep a Word document for archiving. I thought Placing the file would work similarly to Photoshop, so that if I made a change to the file in PS after it was Placed into ID, the change would update in ID, but that doesn’t seem to be working. Is there something I need to be doing differently?

The second issue has to do with fonts. In Word, I am using Minion Pro. Once I move the document into ID, it changes the font to Mincho, because it says it can’t find Minion Pro. Yet, I can manually change the font in ID to Minion Pro.

I hope you can help. Thanks!
