Placing many pictures as anchored objects in long text

I have about 50 pictures I'd like to place efficiently within a long text document. My thought is that there must be a way to use Place to grab a bunch of them, then click with my loaded cursor on the point in the text where they need to appear. I was thinking I could use Object Styles to set their frame style, text wrap, etc.

I am guessing I want to set them up as a Custom Anchored Object because most of them float above (i.e. before) the paragraph they relate to. But some are just embedded within the paragraph itself.

I started thinking I had this set up to work, but it's not happening. I can easily place them on the page, but not, it seems, anchored within the text itself. That's more like: Place, Cut, Paste for each image.

Anyway, is there a quick way to do this? I'm trying to avoid the “one a a time” labor-intensive approach.

      Thanks!

So I found and read a little more about this. The ideal technique seems to be to place your cursor in the text where you want the pic, then use Place for one pic at a time. In a perfect world, this comes in styled with the anchor in the right place, pushes the rest of the text out of the way, and floats right where it's supposed to.

Not so far, but I'm working on it.
