Hi! I am trying to find the best approach to placing multiple images at a time without having any resizing and/or degradation occur.

Exactly what I am doing: I have multiple files of corrected images saved as Tiffs. Each file/image will be one page of an InDesign document that will be exported as a print pdf for use as print-on-demand book.

I have tried using ImageCatalog scripts but have noticed degradation of my images. Unfortunately, I can’t have this. I also can’t spend the time to place every image.

For some projects I am able to create a multi-page pdf through Acrobat without any compromise of image quality. For other projects I need more control of the final layout and therefore would rather set up the document through InDesign.

I have yet to try DataMerge, as it seems to work the same way that ImageCatalog does.

      Your help is much appreciated!!!!

InDesign should not degrade the image… but when you create a PDF out of InDesign, it might. Check the compression settings! Make sure the resolution is high enough, the compression is set to Maximum quality (or use Zip, which does not degrade at all).

      Hey David,

Thanks for the quick reply. The degradation isn’t happening in the export, unfortunately. It seems to be happening on the import. I am assuming that this is because there is some sort of resizing happening . . . I don’t know. I am testing this by printing directly from my InDesign document.

Well, it could be how you’re printing it then. Your printer, your printer driver, the print settings. InDesign itself doesn’t degrade images. It’s just a holder, a page, it doesn’t touch your image itself except when printing or exporting.

      Hi Adrienne,

When you print, is your Send Data All or Optimized Subsampling? Try switching the setting whatever it is.

      Hi Bob and David,

Thanks again for the help and the link. I ran the script again today, adjusted the print setting to Send All, and everything seems to be working nicely. The exported PDF is looking good also. It is a relief to have this working well! I have just added this to my workflow and it is crucial for it to work! :)

      Thanks again and take care!
