I have a problem with the edges of placed images showing up on press pdf's and thus showing up on the final print.

A white frame (with rounded corners, bevel emboss and a drop shadow) has a pdf or psd file placed into it,

the placed file is smaller than the frame that holds it. The placed file has a white background.

The problem is coming from the effects on the original frame.

The workaround is to place the file into a box of it's own with no effects.

In writing this I did figure it out.

      But why is this happening??

I'm not sure, but perhaps you can affect this by applying the effect to just the fill or stroke of the frame (instead of the whole object). It's not always obvious, but the Effects panel lets you apply different fx to different parts of the object. (Drag that little fx icon up or down.)

Thanks for the steer David. I have to try that as well. For the time being my colleague here went through and pulled out the images into non-fx frames, it was a work around but you know how it is with production “that works, do it”.

It all seems a bit buggy that the edge of the placed file showed up.
