I'm trying to use TOC to make an “index” which shows the caption of a photo together with the author (this is on a non-printing layer). Adding the page number too would be good.

Can't get it to work despite watching a few video tuts. Any ideas?

      I guess that's a “don't know”?

Well, did you mean “I tried and it didn't work” or did you mean “I have no clue on what to do”?

A TOC is generated by picking up a certain paragraph style — it's the way it works, and you must use paragraph styles. In your case, it would seem logical to just have it pick up the style used for captions.

I know how to make a table of contents – no problem And I understand that the system is based on paragraph styles.

I have a publiction with many photos – each having a caption with appropriate defined style. Each photo also has a non-printing layer showing the author. These too have their own defined style.

What I'm trying to do is to get something like this:

      page Number photo caption author

with the photos in alphabetical order.

It's going to be tricky! You might be able to manage it by making a TOC then doing a bunch of find/change to kind of merge stuff together. And you could do it with a custom script. No one-step solution I think, though.

      Thanks for the reply

I thought that might be the case – oh well, it was a good idea while it lasted!
