I have almost 50 books in the final print-PDFs from various publishers but not the corresponding Word files, and need to create Amazon KDP ready mobi eBooks (I represent the copyright holder so it’s all legit).

The question is what the best workflow would be? I have viewed both of Ann-Marie Concepción’s Lynda.com tuts dealing with MS Word to ID and ePub creation with ID.

Currently my believe is that I am forced to first convert the PDFs to Word docx, than edit and clean up these word files and subsequently place them into ID where further tweaking and preparing will allow me to export to ePub or mobi ebook files for publication.

I would really be grateful for any tips and advice before staring this daunting project.

      Many thanks,
      Viktor

I don’t know any other way than what you describe, unfortunately.

If I were you, I would be tempted to get a quote from a company that does this kind of thing all the time and has scripts and techniques already set up. For example, eBook Architects (now part of Firebrand) would be one I’d ask a quote from. You could always give them 5 or so, see how they do.

Thank you Ann-Marie! I will contact them and ask if the foreign language doesn’t cause problems for their workflow. There are special characters which need to be double checked before transferring to ID… I’m sure it’s not a good idea to attempt corrections in the epub files. Anyway, Thanks again for your prompt reply… it’s nice to hear from the Master’s voice :-)
