A few years ago, I sent an author a PDF proof (exported from InDesign) of his story. “Knuckle Sandwich,” we’ll call it.

Last night, I sent a PDF proof to the author of “Buffalo Blitz,” and he asked, “Why does the PDF tab read, ‘Knuckle Sandwich’?”

I thought I had this problem solved. Suggestions?

      It sounds like two things.
      (1) In Indesign look at the file info (File/File Info) And make sure the Document title is set what you want (IE Buffalo Blitz)
      (2) This done, when you export the PDF, Select the Advanced tab, Unders Accesibility options, Display Title: use either File Name, or Document Title.

Document title will pick up the name you set in #1

      Thank you, Stacey.

This works for an individual file. Can I set this with InDesign (when no document is open) and make this the default for EVERY InDesign document?

You can’t set metadata with no file open but you could set up a template (INDT) file with the metadata you want and use it to create new docs. There are also some scripts out there that will populate metadata like the Document Title from various sources.
