Is there any way to lock in the PDF security defaults dealing with printing and copying restrictions so that they dont have to be set each time a pdf is exported. I didnt see anything in the preferences pane. Thanks.

I don't believe those settings can be pre-set.

It's also good to know that PDF security is a joke as there are both free and paid-for programs (I use one that costs around $30) to remove PDF password protection in seconds, as long as no password is required to open the file.

if pdfs are being exported (not printed to pdf) go to the security tab of the pdf export, make the settings there, and make sure that the settings are saved as using the “save preset” button.

      does this help?

I tried that once (in a previous version of InDesign) and couldn't get it to save the settings somehow and became convinced you can't save the security settings in a preset. Must remember to double-check before giving an answer :)
