I never had this issue until recently…and I have no idea how or why it started.

When I go to export a PDF:
      1. – I select my preset
      2. – Under GENERAL I have ALL and SPREADS checked under pages. The RANGE button is not checked but shows All Pages in the drop down menu.
      3. – Marks and Bleeds section I have all check boxes except color bar

When I export, the final PDF has the page info at the bottom (like it’s suppose to) BUT instead of having the page range (like it used to) it now says ALL PAGES. There is also another option in the Page Range section that says CUSTOM V. I don’t ever recall having this option in the page range before.

Even if I highlight and delete either All Pages, or Custom V from the Range drop down menu, and have ALL and SPREADS selected for export, it will ALWAYS put one or the other at the end of the page information on the PDF.

I’ve even tried typing in 2-3, but it comes out ALL PAGES.
I’ve trashed my preferences, but still comes up.

I have NO Alternate Layouts in my documents, not on the pages palette, nothing. What am I missing?

Is this happening with one specific document? If so, I would export it to IDML, open it and try again.

No, it’s doing it globally. Doesn’t matter what file I open to export, I always have those 2 options in the Range field.

Then I would re-install Indesign. This is a very unusual behavior.

I can’t help with your current problem, but so far as I know the “Custom V” has always been an option in the drop down and is the default. I have never used it, nor the drop down menu to be honest. I just click the top button that says “all.”

I’ve used it when I want to print certain pages or page ranges. No problem at all.

Yup–which means the range field is normal.

It’s very odd about the “ALL PAGES” thing in the slug line, though.

SCOTT: What version of InDesign is this? Mac or Windows?

We are using InDesign Creative Suite CS6 for Mac…OSX 10.9.5. And like I said before, I wasn’t having this issue before. It seems like it just randomly happened before I caught it.

I checked the document to see if a custom V page was created, but it’s not. The master pages is just Master A with spreads, nothing unusual.

Have you referred to Podcast 188 where David and Anne-Marie discuss Letter V. It has to do with the alternate layout function and publishing for Kindle or other e-reader.

I specialize in print and variable content so I don’t know any more than the above is a good place to start.
