Hi everyone. This is my first post here, so I hope you can help. I have designed a 24 page brochure in InDesign CS5, designed for print. The brochure is heavily image based, as it is advertising a show. When I export, the brochure is 37MB. I can send the file via Dropbox to the printers, however I was concerned with this file size, as I have seen other large documents at much, much smaller sizes. My PDF export settings are set to 300 dpi for the images, as I need 300 dpi for print. Is this correct?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

It's always best to get the job and PDF requirements from your printer as some printers may limit you to PDFx1a (v1.3) while others can easily handle higher PDF versions which do not require flattening and allow options such as layering. Many printers will supply you with a customized .joboptions file or give you the specs to follow.

That being said, 37 MB really isn't a big file, especially for a heavily imaged 24-page document. I'd make sure that the effective DPI of the placed images is high enough. Even if your export settings are set for 300 dpi, it can't fix low-resolution files or files scaled too large thus affecting resolution.
