      Hello,

I’m wondering if someone could help answer my question or perhaps point me to one regarding PDF export from InDesign and how it appears in browser windows.

I’m working for a company designing PDF guides for users to download directly from a link and we have had some issues in how it displays on screen. The PDF looks to be zoomed in (on Chrome in particular) but normal in Safari and Firefox. This appears this way for many users on our team who are located in various parts of the world.

What we cannot puzzle out is why since I started designing the guide (summer 2016) that this is happening. The last PDF guide they published before I took over fits in the window across all browsers.

      I have tried the following:
      • Setting view settings from within the export settings via InDesign — no luck. I tried nearly every permutation of those settings to great frustration.
      • Setting view settings from within Acrobat after an export from InDesign — no luck.

So the developers were able to using a PDF zoom=75 setting but are equally puzzled why the PDF guides I’ve created display zoomed in. They “look” at me as if I did something to manipulate the file being exported and that it has to be InDesign but I’ve never had such an experience before.

      Is this typical?
      Has anyone also experienced this?

I’ve looked for answers in the Adobe Acrobat forums with no luck. Perhaps my search terms aren’t the right ones …

Would love any insight and suggestions on where to look to resolve this. The fact that each browser displays differently makes me believe this is a browser compatibility issue not InDesign.

      Thanks in advance.

I think it is possible that one browser is using the OS PDF viewer and in another browser is using Acrobat’s plug-in. I am sorry to say you can NEVER trust how a web browser will display a PDF. It is a web browser, not a PDF viewer.

Indeed, I agree with David. Viewing a pdf in a browser is different from viewing it in acrobat reader (or pro versions). Even another viewer can give you another zoom factor. It also depends on how the user has set up his viewer. Whatever you try, it can be oke or not.
