      Hi!

I work for a company that has just upgraded from ID CS3 to CS4. We run the software on G5 Macs running OSX 10.4.x.

We normally send lo-res (smallest file size) PDFs to the client for review. However, we are experiencing massive file size increases on PDFs created from converted CS3 files. For example, a single-sided A4 document containing a small amount of text is weighing in at over 2Mb!

We have no problems with PDFs created from new CS4 documents at all. As a workaround we have taken to copying and pasting content from the converted CS3 document to a newly-created CS4 document, but as most of our work includes multiple pages, you can imagine what a PITA that is…

Just so you know, I have tried doing a 'Save as' on a machine running CS3 document BEFORE converting to CS4, doing an immediate 'Save as' AFTER conversion and also optimising the PDF in Acrobat. Nothing seems to work in bringing the file sizes down.

Any help you can give me would be greatly appreciated.

      Regards,

      Harls

Open up that fat pdf in Acrobat, go to Document menu > Examine document

Then with the metadata checked hit 'remove' and resave.

This may well have cut the size dramatically.

      Tim,

I’ve just tried this on a large (30MB) 116-page, graphics-heavy, lo-res PDF saved with Smallest File Size settings and it has knocked the file size down to 11.5MB, so it obviously works.

Thanks very much for your input mate – much obliged!
