I’ve just changed after years of using a PC to a new iMac and notice a few differences when using InDesign CC.

One frustrating difference is that the Paragraph Styles window will not remain active. By that I mean that having assigned a style to some text and then moving to another paragraph to assign a style the style window has to be re-opened from the sidebar.

Another frustration is that with InDesign in fill screen the centre area is transparent and other open apps are seen within it. Perhaps the two are linked.

      I’d appreciate any advice.

The panels normally do stay open, but if they’re not for you, go to Preferences (it’s in the InDesign menu on the Mac, not the Edit menu), and turn off “Auto Collapse Panels” in the Interface panel.

To make InDesign less “transparent” select View > Application Frame.

      David,
Many thanks for that helpful reply.

Obviously there are some differences between the PC and Mac versions.

I’m quite excited at having a new iMac, my first Apple since my early Apple 2.
Adobes CC licence made it possible for me to migrate from the PC at long last without major expense.
