Does anyone have a way of password protecting an InDesign file (CS4)? I know I can export as a PDF, but I am looking to add a password to the InDesign file itself.

Not using InDesign. Zip it and add a password?

Actually, I'd like to add a password to all of my InDesign files (working and completed), so zipping them is not an option. I'm not sending them out to clients – its more so a select few can access and modify them.

People have asked for this kind of feature for many years, ever since the old QX days. I've never seen anyone do it. I believe it would require a plug-in developer and I think it's kind of tricky. However, I'll ask a couple of people I know.

Just found your post. I just save the file as a template (.indt). When someone else opens it, they have to save it under a different name. Hope that helps. –j
