Paragraph Styles not working???

      I have a document with paragraph styles created originally in InDesign CS6. I have recently upgraded to AdobeCC. When I open the original CS6 document into CC the paragraph styles show correctly in the dialogue boxes but are not reflecting in the text I want to change. Has anyone run into this problem before? If so, how do I fix it without starting over? Thanks.
