Ok im new to this, i have figured out how to do my page numbers and how to take numbers of certain pages and changes colours etc. my problem is THAT I SEND MY FILES TO THE PRINTERS AS A PDF AND AS SINGLE PAGES, i just cant seem to get my page numbers on single pages, if i amin facing view it works perfectly one on each page, then the minute i change to single view the numbers on my masters pages go all crazy and end up on the wrong side etc, i have tried starting in single pages and setting it up in masters but it still goes out of wack, is there a trick to setting up page numbers for single page files as i have like 148 pages to number……..

There is no need to change your InDesign document to be able to export “single pages”. I bet the printer instructed you to do this because he doesn't want spreads.

By default, a PDF is exported as single pages — each of your document pages will be a single page in the PDF. Only if you tick the 'spreads' box, ID will draw two of its pages on each of the PDF page. (Or, naturally, if you deliberately designed your document that way, but then you shouldn't have done that in the first place.)
