Quite by accident, today I found that guides drawn while the Page Tool is selected are dashed. And it's not necessary to drag the guide within the Page Tool's defined area at the time. I like the option.

Is there a stated reason that Adobe did this, or was someone just having a bit of coder fun?

Actually, it's a “liquid guide” not just fun. You can use that for guide-based liquid layout. You can even convert one kind of guide into another.

      Thanks David.

It was actually the second surprise of the day. I was delighted to receive a jacket file set up as a 5-page spread; front, back, spine, and flaps. Doubly so when the updated printer specs indicated a change to the spine width. That is why I was using the Page Tool at the time of my “discovery.”

And the (U.S.) designer had even worked in centimeters as laid out in the printer's template. Will wonders never cease?

LOL! That is funny. Yes, cm are a rarity here.

Do you know who was the first president of the United States to suggest that we should change to metric? George Washington, in his first state of the union address in the 18th century! We are still struggling with the idea.
