Page numbers don't update InDesign CS6

      InDesign CS6 Windows 7

      I am have a problem with page numbering updating in a series of book chapters; although the numbers appear correct on the pages, the book feature will not update them, nor do the correct page numbers appear in the dropdown page panel.

      For example chapter 2 pages are 9 to 14, but the book and side panel read 1 to 5. This occurs with every chapter.

      The same problem has appeared in previous saved book layouts that were originally correct.

      If I download the book files onto my laptop (also InDesign CS6) the page numbers are all correct, if I save the files to a DVD and put them back on my desktop computer, as soon as I hit “update numbers” they all change back to 1-5 1-8 etc.

      I reloaded the CS6 files, but the same problem occurs.
