Organize index by page number

      Hi there,

This is my first time using the index feature in indesign and I’m stumped. I managed to make the index without a problem, but I can’t figure out how I can organize the index by page number. I went into the “sort options” and selected “Numbers” but the issue is that it’s currently sorting the product sku numbers instead of the page numbers.

My table of content current looks something like this

      Index
      P2053 Eco Pen 150
      P2054 Eco Pen 151
      P2057 Recycled Paper Pen 140
      P2099 Forum 148
      P2110 Pep Solid Frozen 141

As you can see indesign is organizing the index by the product sku’s (P2053 for example) instead of by the page numbers.
Any help on this matter would be greatly appreciated.

Just to confirm… you used the index feature for this rather than the table of contents feature, right?

Unfortunately, I think the answer is that you should have used the Table of Contents feature for this instead of the index feature. The index feature isn’t really designed for what you’re doing. However, there’s a short process you could use to fix it… I’ll try to write that up quickly in a blog post.

        That is correct David.
I had a feeling I should have used the table of contents features instead but I was having a difficult time figuring out how to use it.
I have have to try and take another stab at it.

OK, hold on a moment and I’ll gather some screen shots and show you how to fix this. I have a feeling other people need this sometimes, too, for indexes of advertisers or products or other catalog lists.
