Ordering Numbered lists

      Hi,

I’m trying to control the order of numbering of lists in Indesign. I can’t seem to set the order because my elements have not been created in the same sequence as they are displayed going downwards on the page.. I’m working with forms so I want to keep all my elements in separate boxes. I’ve figured out multi-level lists, and have created 2 paragraphs for each multi-level list for each of my chapters. So I have paragraph: ‘multi list’ – for number: 1 , and paragraph ‘multi list 2’ for number: ‘1.1.-1.x’. And additional paragraph sets for chapter 2, 3 and so on. I’ve not bothered with character style because it didn’t seem necessary. (?) I wish that the numbering was set by layer order, or a separate order list. Can anyone please help me and explain how I can get the numbering in any order I’d like?

Appreciate any comments, best regards, Harald.

      I’d add a screenshot but I can’t see how I upload those..

Basically I have 1.1. , 1.2. , 1.3 and then suddenly 1.5, 1.7 and 1.4. Because they follow the order of creation and not the order on the page from top to bottom..

ahh, sweet! That really fixed my problem! I had to cut and paste back in place.. wow. I thought I read up on all the numbered list articles but didn’t see this one. Thanks a lot Mr. Blatner, I appreciate it.
