Is there anyway to workaround the lag We get when editing a long text in Indesign? Every time I double click in the story and it takes like 2 or 3 seconds. It’s really annoying.

I googled it and came up solutions like, save it in a new file. Once you save it, the file will be shrank. That’s true, I tried it and my file went from 12 mb to 4 mb but still having the same lag when I enter in the frames.

      There’s no pictures, it’s just a 250 pages book.

Very long stories can do this, especially when there are cross-references or hyperlinks, etc.
I know that Adobe is working on improving performance. (If you join their prerelease.adobe.com program, you can test out their newest beta and give them feedback on whether it’s working better.)

In the meantime, one option is to break the stories down into smaller threads:

      Thank you David.

I thought of that. Even tried it for certain documents but I really can’t work in this way.

Everyday I have the editor changing and adjusting pages. He’s unpredictable. Sometimes he comes up with extra pieces of paragraphs or wanting to reverse the order of things. If my document isn’t flowing through the stories, it is just not practical. It’d cause me setbacks. This is really annoying :(

Thank you dough for suggesting these options.

Can I ask you another thing? Out of curiosity, when designing a traditional book (only text, chapters/titles, no pictures, no charts, just plain text following through pages) would you align it to baseline grid?

I have always seen articles suggesting to align to baseline and I have always hesitated in doing so. Once I tried it and it came out as a disaster. I ran into the same problems. It seems again unpractical. Would you mind elaborating/sharing a bit over on this topic?

I rarely use align to baseline grid. Other people swear by it. Like so many things in InDesign, there are many ways to do the same thing.
