      Hi all-

So myself and my coworker in our publishing department are on different versions of ID – I’m on CC and she’s on CS6. In trying to share files, I’ve found that the option to save CC documents as IDML files often results in unwanted formatting changes, and then we have to rework the entire document.

I was wondering if anyone knew of a plugin that would allow CS6 to open CC documents…I’d like to give that a try before we start shelling out a monthly fee to get her on CC as well.

Eventually, we’ll probably have to make the transition, but we’re seriously considering moving me back down to CS6 to avoid the monthly fees of CC.

Nope. IDML is the only path, I believe.
IDML was never meant to be a perfect, seamless conversion. But unless you’re using specific CC features, it should be pretty close.

Bah-thanks. It’s like they planned this or something…

No, it is just always like this, from one version to the next. Always has been.

You can use two machines on one licence of CC, so you could get her to log in with the same ID as you, assuming you don’t need it elsewhere.

I know this doesn’t help in your case but for others who came to this post whilst googling a way to open a newer version of the file and don’t have access to that version, there is a file conversion service: https://www.stokesdesignproject.com/down-save-indesign-file-service.php
