      Hi –

I need to start off by saying I am not an InDesign expert, but an IT administrator. Please be patient with me if I appear ignorant – I sort of am.

We are using InDesign versions CS2 and CS4 on Windows XP systems. We have several .idd files that were created in CS2 which have broken links, and are taking on the order of 10 minutes to load (in both versions) – evidently because of the broken links.

What I (and my InDesign users) would like to know is – is there a way to open the files and have InDesign ignore the broken links, or is there some other solution to this problem that anyone can suggest?

Thank you very much in advance for any help.

      Greg

I don't think there is an option in CS2, unfortunately. In CS4, there is an option in the File Handling pane of the Preferences dialog box.

Was just wondering if these files are on a network the time it takes to open files maybe increased due to searching the network for the links.

If you copy the files to local drive and disconnect network would they open quicker.

Get rid of these broken links and things will work much better. I made a video that should help:
