Does anyone know how to improve the look of onscreen text in ID?

Here's a comparison of ID vs ILL vs Word vs Pages.

Word & Pages look fine, so it must be an Adobe thing. I've got my ID settings on:

Prefs > Display Monitor > High Quality (for both)
      Enable anti-aliasing is checked.
Appearance of Black > Rich (both)

My comparison files are tiny, with just a few lines of text each… so I find it hard to believe that it could be a memory thing, but…?

      MacBookPro5,4 – – Intel Core 2 Duo – – 2.53 GHz
      1 Processor, 2 Cores – – 3 MB L2 Cache – – 4 GB Memory — 1.07 GHz Bus Speed

      TKS for checking this out!

I guess Adobe uses a different screen rendering engine. To me, it's not worse, it's just that Pages/Word is more bold/strong. I don't think there is any way to change that on-screen rendering in the Adobe products. Are you concerned about output or just readability while working?

Tks – I know that output resolution will be fine; it's onscreen that I'm concerned with.

I'm a typography purist and I really want to “see” a typeface as I design.

Working with type in ID feels like I'm driving a car with vaseline smeared across the windshield; screenshot

But if *you* haven't heard anything about this issue, that probably means it's time for me stop digging for a solution and start figuring out a workaround.

      Thanks!

P.S. I've been a fan of yours since your first Quark books. 99% of the time you approach publishing apps exactly the way I do, which (for me) is key to following a book or video. Once an author/presenter starts showing how to do something that I would never have need for, I can't help but drift.

I've been out of the industry for some time and am just now getting up to speed with ID. I'm glad to see that you are still around untangling publishing apps!
