Hi,
I have an odd text issue I’m hoping someone can help with. I am working with an older InDesign file and updating it. One thing I am doing is moving text that was formatted with tabs into tables for easier management.
Some of these old text block have a gray background on them. When I copy them over to the table cells, the background stays with the text. See this screen capture:
Notice in the second column the “L” has a few paragraph returns above it. And the gray background does not go down with it.
I thought it was just a paragraph rule or shading, but it is neither of these.
I am stumped. Any ideas how I can get rid of this gray background?
Thanks for your help,
Colin -

Have you checked Paragraf Style – Underline options? Could be that?
Try to force the text to “Basic Paragraf” – if that removes the grey background, it IS an Paragraf Style-problem :)

I did check Paragraph styles. Forcing it to “Basic paragraph” does not remove the gray blocks.
I hope someone can figure this out. It is really frustrating!
Thanks!

Almost always, when I want to copy a bunch of text into InDesign, I first place the text into a plain text editor like Notepad for Windows or BBEdit for Mac. This removes the hidden stuff that sometimes would come along with it.
Another technique is to change your errant paragraph’s style into something else then change it back into what you want.

Thanks for the idea. I also sometimes will paste into a plain text document to remove styling. I hadn’t thought to do that with this though.
I will give that a shot! Thanks for the tip. :)
