My object styles palette is empty. Not just empty like the styles are gone, but completely empty.

No [basic frame], no trash, new, or clear-overrides buttons, no interface elements like the scroll bar. nothing. just a smooth, pure, gray, rectangle that says “object styles.”

I know the styles still exist because when I click on an object that I know is styled with an object style, and I open up the style options, I see it still has a custom style name.

This is also the case with the cell styles tab but not with any other. I can still see all my paragraph styles etc.

I've tried restarting indesign as well as the whole machine and the problem persists. I've tried creating new styles to “wake up” the tab but nothing shows up after I click OK. I'm on CS4.

Has this ever happened to anyone? I really need to access my object styles! help!

      problem serendipitously solved!!

I had to pull the tab away from the organized tabs column into a freestanding window. Make sure it's in the regular rectangular mode (not the mode where it's a little icon box with an expanded window attached to it) then I double clicked the up and down carrots button next to the “object styles” label a couple of times and they reappeared along with all the handy buttons and the scroll bar etc.
