"No Styles" My Foot…

Setting a default font is problematic in ID CC 2015 (or any version). I know how to set up Basic Paragraph, and I know how to set the default Basic Text Frame object style to “No Styles.” I know how to set a start font in no-document mode…

So. I’m in no-document mode. As soon as I set a default font, the Paragraph Styles panel changes from “(No Styles)” to “(No Styles)+” indicating that (No Styles) actually has defaults of its own! Clearing overrides changes my chosen “defaults” to Adobe’s idea of baseline formatting…

Specifically, Minion Pro 12 with Metrics default kerning and hyphenation on!

It drives me nuts that at some level, I can’t really set my text defaults the way I want them:

      • Font of my choice
      • No Styles
      • Optical Kerning
      • No Hyphenation

I want a “No Styles” option that doesn’t default back to hyphenated Minion Pro 12. Is that even possible? Where are those “No Styles” styles stored?

The reason I don’t want a Basic Paragraph style is its propensity to break formatting when pasting a type object into another document. Anybody have a clue how to change that Minion Pro default?

I had this problem as well; text would default to Minion Pro whenever I created a new document. I was able to set my default to Arial no hyphenation by adjusting the basic paragraph style with no documents open. I have had no further issues with text defaulting to Minion Pro. However, I don’t know about a “No Style” alternative for paragraph styles.
