Has anyone else discovered that if you have a drop shadow on an object and export to interactive pdf in CS5 the effect is removed and replaced by a black line? Is there a work around?

Now that I've explored it more I think it has something to so with colour spaces. If I create a new doc (with web intentions) and paste the offending shape in it is ok…. Might just rebuild from scratch.

Nope, I was jumping the gun. Here's what I am doing:

red shape. add dropshadow. export as interactive pdf (iPDF) = maintains drowshadow

red shape with dropshadow on a layer above a light grey shape layer. expost iPFD = maintains dropshadow

red shape with dropshadow on a layer above a light gray shape that has been converted to a button. export iPDF = not layer effect.

      Nuts!

My CS4 always shows this warning when I try to export a document with effects and have the “Interactive” checkbox checked. That's why I never click any of the “Never Show Again” checkboxes — “I'm paranoid, but am I paranoid enough?”

You might have clicked the Don't Bother Me checkbox sometime long ago; but then again, it also might have changed in CS5, and it just doesn't warn you anymore.

The dialog contains a tip on how to prevent this: try changing the Acrobat compatibility setting.

Oh wait — this message pops up for the reverse! The effects should still be there, but no buttons …

      Hmmm …

I'm not sure why the drop shadow would disappear, but it sounds like the key is that you converted the gray object to a button… yes? Buttons are always on top of other objects, I believe. You need to put the buttons on top.

So even if the button is on a layer underneath the rest of the art InDesign exports in the iPDF ontop of everything? Sounds crazy to me. Oh well. Time for a redesign.

Not all that crazy: how would you click a button if it was underneath something else?

I see what you are saying, however what I had planned seems like it should have worked.
