[No language] to bypass spell check isn't working as hoped

Hi everyone! I’m working on a document that has a lot of parenthetical citations in the text, so all those last names inevitably come up as misspelled with dynamic spelling as well as when I run a spell check.

I made a GREP style that applies a [no language] character style to Lastname in (Lastname, 2019), and the dynamic spelling squigglies disappeared, but when I run spell check it DOES flag those Lastnames, even though they’re in [no language].

Is there a setting or something I’m missing? (I hope so!) It’s not THAT big a deal, but I’m on a mission to make this document *chef kiss* as perfect as possible.

      Thanks in advance!
