So if I could briefly describe my situation, I’d really appreciate any and all feedback. I’ve been working for my current company for a little over a year, designing sales programs, email marketing, sales flyers, one sheets etc. I graduated from Grad school in 2012 and even though I’ve been using the programs in the Adobe creative suite for years, I’ve only been designing things professionally for about a year. I constantly feel pushed to work faster, faster, and I feel as though I’m working as hard and fast as I can go. I’m sure this is primarily a boss thing, but the problem is that since this is my first job and there are no other employees at my company who do what I do… I really have no benchmark with which to compare my skills and performance. I really can’t say if it is possible for me to be working smarter/harder/faster.

It’s really hard for me to gauge where I can go, if I’m not sure where I am, so I came here to get some opinions from some experts… and non-experts to see if anyone can give me some feedback on the most recent program I worked on.

So here is the program https://www.rbicorp.com/files/promotions/2014SpringBook_KOHincluded.pdf

We put it together in 7 weeks, start to finish (not including time spent at the printer). To save time, some of the pages were copied directly from past programs and had paragraph/table styles applied to them to make them match this book. Only about 15-20 of the pages were done this way. I used object/paragraph/table styles wherever I could for consistency and to save time. Also, a lot of the images we get from our vendors are low-res and I do the best I can to make them work for print. I had a couple of people working to get me the correct information and pricing to go in the book, but the design was done by me alone. I should also say that I am partially responsible for the “logic” of the book, so I ask a lot of questions throughout the process to make sure we’re not creating nonsensical pages.

So I guess that’s it. My primary concern is whether the amount of work put into it is average or below/above average for one (relatively new) designer to have done in 7 weeks, but like I said any and all feedback is welcomed.

Thanks for reading this tremendously long post and for any feedback you leave.

Note that this PDF is 51 MB! Too big for me to download easily while on the road.

It’s always hard to answer the question of how we compare to others. Did that 7 weeks include design? And writing? and Production of it in InDesign? Each of those are very different problems.
