Nav TOC won't show properly for Nook

      I’m wondering if anyone has some ideas here. I have a valid epub file that shows properly on iPad, and on Kindle Previewer, and on Adobe DE. The problem is on Nook with the NAV TOC. The NAV TOC shows the names of the xhtml files, not the chapter names. It’s driving me batty. The original doc was nested, so I flattened the navPoints in the toc.ncx file, made sure it would validate, but still, it doesn’t appear properly.

      I’ve been limited in being able to test it too, because Nook for Mac and Nook Study both are quite buggy and consistently hang. So I’m relying on the online Nook previewer via the Manuscript tab in my “project” on Nook Press.

      TIA for any insights. If someone wants to see the ePub file I’d be glad to shoot it over.

      Marty, the TOC works in other readers, just not the Nook? When you say it shows the names of the .xhtml files, do you mean that is what is what is displayed in the Nook interface? You don’t have any weird symbols or characters in there, do you?

      If you want to copy/paste part of your toc.ncx file here, I’ll see if I can see anything wrong.

      Hi Sarah,

      Yes, the nav toc shows properly in the other readers, not on the Nook. And yes, upon using the online Nook previewer I could not see the “text” but the names of the xhtml files. My workaround was to re-type the name of each xhtml file with the proper label via their “Manuscript Editor.” I have to say, the Manuscript editing capability is cool, but it is lame that their device previewer doesn’t honor proper toc.ncx files.

      Here is a paste of the toc.ncx before I de-nested it. (It didn’t show properly either nested or de-nested.) I also at one point changed the “dtb:depth” content to “1” after de-nesting it and it didn’t matter.

      Hi Marty,

      Sorry I haven’t had a chance to check the forums in a while. Your TOC has two levels, right? I wonder why <meta name=”dtb:depth” content=”7? /> Seems like it should be =”2″. But I don’t know whether that will solve anything. I don’t know why it would display correctly everyhwere except for the Nook.
