Mysterious linked Word files

      I have a newsletter I work on regularly. Over the course of the last couple of years, I've copied the latest version, and used it as the starting point for the subsequent issue many times. I now find I have “missing” links to Word (.doc) files that are no longer relevant. In fact, whatever content they represented has long since been deleted and replaced with other current text.

      When I Option-click Update in the Links menu (if I've renamed or moved my images folder, for example), in addition to the images, InDesign also looks for these “missing” text files. I'd love to delete those links so it stops asking for them, but I can't find them. They don't appear in the Links panel. And I have no idea where else to look.

      Can any of you enlighten me? It's mildly annoying, and slightly confusing to have to deal with this every couple of months.

      I would suggest exporting to IDML (or inx, in cs3) and then opening that file. Might clean out weirdness that crept in.

      I had the same problem. I did the IDML trick and it worked by finding and linking the file which was not previously available. I was then able to UNLINK.

      But a faster way is to relink to any text file and then UNLINK. Since these are old links and you're not going to use them anyway, it doesn't matter to what they're linked. Getting access to that UNLINK is the goal.

      Weird little problem in any event.

      Thanks, everyone. The IDML export/import worked perfectly. Didn't even ask me to try to re-link the text files, and linked the image files automatically.
