I would like to include at the beginning of each chapter in a book a mini table of contents that captures the titles of all the headings in that particular chapter, along with the page number where the heading is found. Is it possible to create multiple mini-tables of contents like this?

Sorry, we had a Forum Failure Moment, and lost a couple hours of forum posts. Nellie replied to herself her:

For clarification, each chapter is a separate .indd file inside a book. I had created a single text frame for the chapter’s TOC at the top of each chapter.indd but was unable to establish how I would create multiple text frames that extend across each chapter file. Suggestions for an solution would be appreciated!

Nellie, you can do both book-wide and document-wide table of contents. For the book, put the TOC in a “front matter” chapter in the book panel. In the layout > table of contents dialog box, turn on the “include book” checkbox.

For the document-wide TOC, just make a new TOC and leave that checkbox off.
