OK, I have a 4500 page A4 PDF that I am going to need to place into an InDesign CS4 imposition that I have (2up A4 on SRA3 with trims). Obviously I would like to automate this rather than placing it manually! I have tried some PDF import apps & scripts, but only seem to get a PDF-per-page result. How do I get the PDF into existing image boxes sequentially? any useful advice will be gratefully & humbly accepted! Carlos

i'd suggest breaking the 4500 pg file up into 4500 single page pdfs and then named using bridge using the batch rename feature so that each page has a name something like 0046.pdf, 0047.pdf etc. from here, its possible to do what you want using data merge – a data file needs to be created manually.

this is how it CAN be done, but if i was doing this at my work i'd do an imposition in preps, then build a job ticket in the RIP and export either to the printer or a pdf file. whichever way it is created, it will still make a massive pdf file.

      hope this makes sense.

There are some impostion software for Acrobat, like Quite Imposing, it's a few quid but certainly save you a heartbreak here.

Look, imposition is a dirty job unless you have a healthy budget. But, here are a couple of links. I use both of these regularly. Sometimes, I have to do a workaround or two, but they have saved me hours and hours of painstaking imposition.

      Hope that these links help.
