We have a font active in Suitcase, and it shows up for use in Illustrator, but will not show up in InDesign unless it is dropped into the IND font folder. And, it is just one font out of a family, the rest of them are available.

Anyone have any ideas on where to look for what is causing this?

I have seen the question and answer for using the Fonts folder in InDesign to get InDesign to see a font, and it is working as a workaround for this issue. But, I’d really like to know what is causing the issue and fix it.

      Thanks.

Mac OS 10.11.2, IND CS6, Suitcase Fusion 6

Does it show up in any other programs on your computer? Does it work on other computers? Might be a font corruption/weirdness problem? Maybe remove it from Suitcase and then re-add it? Or find a clean copy to add it?

      • Font shows up as expected in Illustrator and word, just not in InDesign.
      • Font works on my and other computers, so I gave co-worker a copy of the font from my machine, where it works. Still did not show up on her computer as expected, which is when I suggested she drop it into the InDesign fonts folder, where it now works.

Both of our systems are identical, installed and configured by the same person on the same day.

      Hi Rebecca-

Here are a few things you can try:

Update to the latest version of Suitcase.

Confirm the font is activated in Suitcase. Check it for damage (choose File > Check for Corruption).

Clear your font caches (choose File > Clean Font Caches).

Make sure that no other copies of that font are activated outside Suitcase (in any of the Mac font folders, and in FontBook). The Font Vault in Suitcase will prevent a conflict in the fonts it manages.

Then check your plugins folders in InDesign and Illustrator to see if they both have the Suitcase auto-activation plugins active.

Related question, but with slightly different particulars:

I created an InDesign file with 36 instances of a placed Illustrator file (with 36 artboards) 3 months ago. All displayed fine.

Three months later want to make some small modifications, and having trouble with font display.

The Illustrator file contains Myriad Pro in Regular, Italic, Semibold and Light styles. It displays properly in Illustrator. The InDesign file also includes text in Myriad Pro in all four styles, all of which are displaying correctly. So the font appears to be fine and activated correctly.

However any instances of Semibold, Light, or Italic in the placed file are being replaced with a default font (Arial?), whilst the Regular weight of Myriad Pro is fine.

Using latest versions of InDesign CC (11.3.0.34) and Illustrator CC (19.2.1), with FontExplorer Pro (5.5) font management.

      Help!
