Any help welcomed for two basic problems I cannot solve. Must be a simple solution.
When I lay out my book in InDesign, the two-page spread looks fine.
But when I save it as single pages as a PDF, as required by Lightning Source for printing, odd things happen.
The header, which I have deleted on the first page of each chapter, somehow reappears.
The page margins, which seemed ok on the two-page layout, now appear incorrect on all left-hand pages. Obviously I am setting something wrong. I want a wider margin on the inner side of the pages.

Do the header boxes touch each other on the master pages? (i.e., overlapping to margins/gutters). Are they grouped across the spread?

I’ve had similar problems, especially if there is an inside bleed.

In the current job I’m working on, I had to nudge the right-hand box over .5 points from the inside gutter.

I know your problem is left-hand pages, but maybe it’s something similar.

No, the header boxes do not overlap the margins.
Simply, all the left-hand pages are too near the spine even though I have tried to adjust the margins. Right-hand pages are ok, so I suspect I am making some basic mistake in the initial page layout.
