I work for a print magazine, and often we layer text over photos or other elements, so that some of the text is white on a dark background, while other text in the same article (and therefore in a linked text box) is black on a light background. Is there a way to make this happen automatically, so that all text in one text box appears white, while all text in a subsequent linked text box appears black, without manually changing the text color? Currently, we apply the text color manually, but when the copy changes (as it invariably does), of course some text of the wrong color appears in the wrong text box.
I’ve tried applying a blending mode of screen to the text box in which I want to have white text. That usually looks OK on screen in normal view, but Overprint Preview shows–and on press printing proves–that the text doesn’t reliably print white.
Is there maybe an Object Style option or a Paragraph Style option similar to Nested Line Styles that could take care of this? A “white text color in this text box only” option? So far I haven’t found any.
