hello all, thanks for the help.

i'm new to indesign looking to create a very simple leaflet or brouchure. it would be 6″x4″ and would fold in half.

i know how to set margins but i dont know how to get indesign to show the content on all parts of the leaflet.

i'm attempting to have content on all 4 sides. so now that i put it into words i guess i'm trying to create a 2 sided document.

any assistance or advice would help immeasureably.

      Thanks

Is this just a 1-sheet document (one page, folded over)? Or are there a bunch of pages? If the latter, you probably want to make your document page size 4 x 3 (or 6 x 2, depending on how you're folding it). Then lay out each page as you would read it: Page 1 is the first page of the booklet, page 2 is the second, and so on. Then use File > Print Booklet to print it all in “order” if you're printing to your own printer. If you're printing at a commercial printer, just give them a PDF and they put it all together in the right order (called imposing it).

      thanks for the prompt reply.

this is a 1-sheet document just as you described. the document is actually to be printed on 4×6 photo paper used in landscape orientation so it will have content on each side.

folded this would equal front cover, inside cover, inside back, back. it's just a single 6×4 sheet that will be folded in half. i don't know if this would be classified as a booklet but i don't know…it's only one piece of paper folded.

the content varies between text and images and would covers the entire side on each “page”(?). so do i create the content for each side without margins? or on separate pages and somehow hang together then made to print as a full document? i'm stuck. also i'm printing to my own home printer. any tips on how to accomplish this? also this is cs4. thanks

In this case I would just make a 2-page document: one page for each side of the sheet. The pages should be 6 x 4. No need for margins, probably. You can put a ruler guide down the middle to indicate (on screen) where the fold will be, or draw a tiny line in the middle that actually does print if you want that instead. I don't have a 4 x 6 printer, so I'm not sure how best to print to that.

thanks again, David. i do have an all in one printer that prints 4×6. so if i understand correctly, i'll create two separate

documents and print one doc on the front and the other on the back then fold. thank you. my next challenge i guess would be

the color type…id est rgb or cmyk. which would be best for printing? also being as this is a document that is basically just two sides

of a paper, would it be simpler to use photoshop? i am more familiar with ps but i really want to get my feet wet with InD.

suggestions?there are lots of images, some translucent, and bulleted text.

I think InDesign makes more sense. I would just do a 2 page document. One page front, and one page back. If the final output is an inkjet printer, choose edit > transparency space > RGB, so that you can get more rich colors. I would probably use RGB color swatches, too, even for text.
