locking spreads in flowable epub

I have a freelancer telling me that he can lock the spreads on his flowable epub so the text won’t change and everything stays together (because the font size can’t be changed so it won’t reflow). I’m not aware of this feature in a flowable epub and am wondering if this is possible. What is the difference between a FXL epub and a flowable if this is possible? He is able to lock the pages, so they can be viewed as spreads or single pages.

I haven’t worked with flowable epubs for quite some time as I work strictly with FXL epub right now. Can anyone tell me if something has changed with flowable to make it work as he is describing? I haven’t been able to find the script or info. on setting up a flowable epub in this way.

This sounds like EPUB3, and theoretically I believe it’s possible, and it could be that it is possible now but I havent tested it so I’m not sure if its been widely supported in the ereaders that support EPUB3 (Redium might do it, Azardi might do it, and iBooks might also support it). I would ask your dev if they can send you an example ePub with that implemented and run it through different ereader apps that support EPUB3 (iBooks/Azardi/Redium/etc) and see for sure.

It’s old but you check out Liz Castro’s blog post about it:
