I don’t know if anyone else ran into this problem with InDesign crashing when changing document sizes using liquid page rules.

I have a master page, with liquid guides and “Guide based” liquid page rule turned on (no problem with that).

That master in turn, is the basis for a second master, which has “Controlled by master” liquid page rule turned on.

Any pages made using the second master also have “controlled by master” liquid page rule.

The problem is that SOMETIMES (not always) documents set up like this crash InDesign when changing document size from Letter to A4. It winds up sending a crash dump to Apple. Other times, the document may change sizes fine, and suddenly after adding something unrelated, like an image (.psd) on any page, suddenly InDesign starts crashing when changing page sizes — and sometimes it doesn’t crash.

The work around is to put the same liquid guides on the second master, and never use “controlled by master” on a master page (that is a sub of another master page)

This is InDesign 2021 (16.0.2) running on macOS BigSur 11.1.

      ‘Tis quite mysterious!
