We are linking excel files into InDesign (these files are placed as unformatted tabbed text and are links to the file).
If there is a hidden column within the cells and there are visible columns to the right InDesign ignores the hidden columns, but if the hidden columns are on the far right of the cell range InDesign throws in an extra tab, even though there are no other active columns.
COL1 COL2 COL3 COL4(HIDDEN) COL5 COL 6 = 5 TABS
COL1 COL2 COL3 COL4 COL5 COL6(HIDDEN) = 6 TABS
It only inserts one extra tab even if there are mulitple hidden columns.
We have observed this behavior in CS4 and CS6.
Has anyone else seen this behavior is there a fix beyond selecting cell range within the “Show Import Options” dialog?
( We are sure there are no stray columns in the excel document and this is confirmed in the options dialog as it shows a default cell range. And the checkbox for “Import Hidden Cells Not Saved in View” is unchecked.)
Any help would be much appreciated.
