Have people been having any success with this feature?

It’s a feature that we had been looking forward to using as we often pass files among people in our studio and knowing that you were correctly exporting the file each time would have been very useful!

However what we have all found is that is simply doesn’t work for any of us. If we trash the preferences it will work for a very short period of time, and then cease to work again. What we get is what we have always had with InDesign – it simply remembers whatever the last export setting was and applies that as a default to your subsequent file.

So if I export a print PDF for a glossy magazine, then my next file as a JPEG for an online image. When I return to my original magazine file and go to export it, it offers to export as a JPEG because that was the most recent format. It also remembers page ranges from the last export and puts that in as the default when you next export a file.

Of course we always check export criteria before we export any file and we have a lot of presets that we can choose from, the ‘remember last export format’ travelling with individual files would still be a very nice feature to have. For example if I am unaware of any little ‘gotchas’ in a specific file output set-up, this feature would remember its previous settings and they would already be set up.

I suspect we will need to wait for Adobe to fix this one – in a similar fashion to the missing layer dots in the layers palette that frustrated us for a considerable period in previous versions!

Has anyone had similar experiences to us, or is it just working for people?
