I'm on an intensive learning curve for InDesign and am so appreciateive of.. Lynda.com tutorials, Real World book, forum, blogs posts etc.

However… while I want to learn keyboard shortcuts but the ones with function keys don't work reliably (?) . I think I have a conflict with the Microsoft extended ergonomic keyboard I use and the OS. I am in CS3 and OS X.6. I've looked around and haven't seen anyone else with this issue. I have tried resetting in Systems Preferences – There is a function for reassigning “Hot Keys” for a specific application but there's no “use application keyboard shortcuts.” ??

Also InDesign won't let me assign shortcuts in the application – styles windows etc.

      Thoughts? Thanks.

Yes, the Mac OS captures many keyboard shortcuts before InDesign has a chance to see you're pressing them. Open System Prefs (see image below) and turn off the checkbox next to the name of the offending feature, or change it's shortcut there:

      That usually works.

Hmm.. that was a great step forward – for the keyboard on the MacBook. Not for the extended keyboard. I could reassign but only with the usual keys. I got the free Keyboard Shortcuts… maybe that will help.

      THanks
