Hello there, I’ve been facing an issue that I can’t seem to understand.

      I’ve got this document : https://drive.google.com/open?id=1bYG7EIVYn_VZm350TALcX_XJZmYthz_O
2 pages, and some text (with corresponding paragraph styles) that flow over 2 frames : one on the left page (at the bottom), and the next on the right (at the top).

My goal is simple : I want to keep my title with the next paragraph.

I use the option “Keep with next : 1 line” in my “Title” paragraph style, but when my text starts with the green title, Indesign shows me a Keep option violation, and the title doesn’t go on the 2nd textframe.

This issue seems to occur only on this situation (when the text starts with the title) : if I add some text before the title, the keep options work as expected : my title goes to the 2nd textframe.

I don’t understand why Indesign can’t honor the keep options ?

The document is generated by scripting but I don’t think that it’s relevant for my issue.

I hope my message is clear enough, english is not my main langage (and my Indesign is in French!)

In my opinion, this is just how Indesign works. The keep-options are meant to work in threaded textframes to keep flowing text organized. In your case, you start a new textframe at the bottom of the page and then move on to the next page. The question is more “Why would you do that?”.

Thanks for your quick answer Marc !
I see what you mean, and you’re right, i shouldn’t place a textframe here (actually, my script place it here !). So I think I might need to re-think how my script behave to prevent this scenario from happening.
Have a nice day Sir and thanks for your time

That is an interesting problem! I never thought of that… but yes, InDesign will not honor a Keep option if it means that the frame will be empty.

I wish this behavior didn’t exist, it will be so easier for what I need to achieve, but hey I don’t work at Adobe hehe. I guess I’ll find a way through scripting, as always !

I think I can try to simply delete the textframe if it only contains 1 line, after executing my “trigger page break” function.
If I run into more issues, i’ll post in the scripting section !
      Thanks David
