Has anyone experienced this? Is there a fix other than reverting to an older version of InDesign?

I have 19.4 installed on a Windows 10 machine. I noticed within the past week that every time I try to open a file created in an older version that I get the following message and can’t seem to work on the file…

“This file is already open by another user or another application. This file may be stored on a network server and cannot be opened until the other users closes it.”

The message continually pops up, making it nearly impossible to work on the file.

I’ve only noticed it on older files with [Converted] appended to the file name. I was able to break one from the cycle with patience and good timing to quickly replace links. That one happened to seemingly have broken links…

Timing the pop-up and saving as IDML also doesn’t work. It does the same thing when opening the IDML.

I work off of a local OneDrive, so the file is saved on the computer. I tried a test by copying a file to the desktop. I then timed it right to do a save as a 19.4 file as well as an IDML. The same issue still appears.

I have not seen that problem. I wonder if it’s something wrong with your operating system permissions. You’ve tried restarting the computer? I’m not sure how to reset permissions on Windows 10, but maybe there’s a trick there?

Thanks David. I did try restarting, but the issue still persists.

I was able to recover another document. It all seems tied to CC Libraries. For whatever reason, it’s not recognizing the library item. The layers panel was saying <pasted graphic> and the links panel lists all library items as Adobe PDF, but there were no errors in preflight.

Once I relink it by timing my mouse clicks with the escape key between pop-ups, the message is gone for the most part. I’m now getting a message only when opening and closing, but it does seem to be any older file (one was 2/2023 and the other was 4/2023) with CC Library items is doing it.

Thanks David. I did try restarting, but that doesn’t solve the issue.

I also recovered another document. I think it may have something to do with CC Libraries…

I also found a bug report for 19.4 with this issue.

Wow. Fascinating! I’m sorry to hear about this, but I’m glad Adobe seems to be aware of the problem.
