Is there a script to make pictures of a PDF and insert them into InDesign?

      Morning :)

I'm just wondering if someone knows of a script (or several that together can do the job) that will take a PDF file, save each page as a picture in Photoshop (preferably TIFF or PSD to keep quality) in correct sequence and then import each picture into InDesign in the right order and place/fit them on the page (Like the MultipageImporter script)?

At the printing office where I work we often receive PDF-files of doctoral or master thesis' that are made in some weird/corrupt ways that won't let us print differnt pages (error message), or omit certain pages when sent to the printer without giving any warning (the pages simply don't print). So I am looking for a way to help my boss with these crazy files and I think this would be the last way if every other trick fails.

      Thanks for any help :D

That's a fairly unqie request. But you could easily:

–Open the PDF and extract all the pages to a folder (one command)

–Open Photoshop and batch process the PDFs to a folder (one action).

–In InDesign, Place multiple photos, place them as a contact sheet (one action)

While it's manual, it's not bad.

For $300 U.S. you could also buy PDF2ID. This will open and convert a pdf to ID. Done.

Are the PDFs corrupt in such a way that they simply can't be placed page-by-page into an InDesign document, then exported again?

Chuckie: I believe I got step one and two, but the third (with the contact sheet) you lost me on, sorry. Do you think you could explain a little more detailed? Buying the PDF2ID is sadly not an option.

Adamjury: Usually when I need help like described in my first post, the PDF files are corrupt in such a way that when I use the script MultiPageImporter it will first of all crash/stop the script. It also usually means that I can not view the page in Acrobat because it simply won't show or I get a message that this is not how it should be (can't remember at the moment exactly what Acrobat tells me). Luckily I can still open the page in Photoshop manually.

Thanks a lot for your help so far, both of you!

Another question on the side by the way, is there some webpage where you can learn Acrobat tips & tricks? Of course I know there are, but not all are good. I.e. I have helped my boss a lot after learning how to save optimized PDF-files about a month ago in the easiest situations that is enough to get the file printing again.

What happens if you take one of the broken PDFs and try to print it to Postscript from Acrobat? Does it output a PS that can then be distilled back to a working PDF, or does it crash?
