Somewhat off topic, but I figured this would be a great place to pick some experienced brains.

Our old trusty, built like a tank HP LaserJet 4mPlus finally bit the dust last week. It was quite remarkable – I purchased it used about 12 years ago and it just kept on going – printing from Macs, PCs and Linux boxes, millions of pages over the years.

Now it's time for a new black LaserPrinter, but I can't figure out if Postscript support is really necessary anymore. We do most of our proofing via an Epson R1400 ink jet (which is has no postscript rip built in) and pretty well everything out of InDesign, design wise, but we would use the new Laserprinter from InDesign as well.

We'd also need something that will handle PC + Mac and it should Ethernet networkable (gigabit preferred), to print out cheques and word docs too.

      So:

      1) Do we still need to purchase a Postscript LaserPrinter?

      2) Anyone have any models they like?

      Thanks

PS – anyone else remember Quark 1.11 ?

I remember a runtime version of windows for Pagemaker (hmm cant remember version) and CorelDraw 1.0.

My very first Laser printer was a HP 4mp which I think was around 3k when new.

Not sure about the need for postscript any more but all printers we have here have postscript and never thought of buying a printer without it. Never thought about buying anything but HP as well.

You can always Network Share the printer on one machine so both Mac & PC can use it.
