Is it possible for Indesign to auto relink to multi-page PDF file

We have a blueprint project that requires placing 197 pages from a PDF file due to a reduction. The roll width of the paper is 36″. I created an Indesign file 36w x 24h. We need to place 2up on a page. The file being imported is 40″ x 32″ that will be reduced approx 60% to (2) 18w x 24h per Indesign page. After getting the first 2 pages placed and resized it becomes a monotonous task of copying and pasting and relinking to the next page in the pdf. Is there a way to automate this? I have wondered about this for 20 years, maybe its been addressed and I never got the heads up.

There’s an excellent script for that called “MultiPageImporter2.5_DMD”

      That script is awesome.
Another option is to put 2 graphic frames on a master page, and set them to object > Fitting > Frame Fitting Options to “Fit Proportionally”
Then you can go back to the document page. Choose File > Place, select the PDF, and turn on Show Import Options. Choose to import all the pages from the PDF. Now you just need to click on the first frame, then the second, then press command-shift-P (or ctrl-shift-P) to add a new page, and then click-click again, and keep repeating that. It’s monotonous, but it’ll only take about 5 minutes.

It worked awesomely! Thanks David! That took all the fun out of placing the pages, click, click, click. That’s exactly what I was looking for. If you could explain a little about that script from R Dal. I found it but I have no idea what to do with it. Thanks.
